The 4X (watch the replay right here) kicked the weekend off to a slippery start with the track proving to to be the undoing of many big names including Michal Prokop, Roger Rinderknecht, Cedric Gracia, Mickael Deldycke and Dan Atherton. However, current 4X leader Graves, Joost Wichman (who won in Maribor last year), and Tomas Slavik all made it through to the final, putting Graves up against a trio of team mates. In the final, Marosi stuck to Graves' wheel out of the gate, and was ready to pounce when the Australian wobbled in one of the heavily rutted corners.  Once in front, there was no catching Marosi who held on to take the win.  

The women's race was just as exciting in the hazardous conditions and saw Anneke Beerten, current World Champion Caroline Buchanan, Fionn Griffiths and Sarsha Huntington in the start gate. In the final, Griffiths and Buchanan bumped, with the World Champion going down, and Beerten crashing into her. This gave Griffiths a clear run to the finish line and victory. Despite failing to make the final, Jana Horakova (CZE) continues to hold onto the World Cup lead  

The rain eased over night for the start of the downhill (watch the replay right here) leaving the course slower and sticky with mud, yet this couldn't stop Rachel Atherton start her comeback season with the perfect result. Despite crashing and breaking a finger in a week prior to the race, the 2008 World Champion blazed the course, the fastest at every split, beating second placed Sabrina Jonnier (Rocky Mountain-Maxxis) by 10 seconds and Floriane Pugin (Scott 11) by 13 seconds.   

The men's event was a tense affair with the course becoming more rutted and sticky as the day wore on. It was Gee Atherton who was the first of the top seeds to stamp his authority on the course, especially through the infamous Maribor rock garden, taking a unique line that no one else had tried. It paid off and Gee clocked the fastest time of the day by a long shot. However, Greg Minnaar, whose cautious approach to the upper technical portion, but then powering through the lower third took the win, shaving a quarter of a second off Gee's time to become the first World Cup leader of the season. Sam Hill crashed in his run and the 2009 Champ Steve Peat didn't get his defence of the world title off to great start, finishing 35th after a crash.
